keyboard and mouse not working

Im running windows xp pro and everytime i boot my keyboard and mouse do not
work. im positive they are in the right spot and i cannot go into safemode or
bios. im clueless to what i should do.
 
I assume you have been in the control panel and gone to 'keyboard' and
'mouse' been to properties and check for updates.
Did your mouse and keyboard ever work????
Do you have antivirus program, is it up todate, and have you recently run a
scan.
If your mouse and keyboard were working, subsequently did you
download/install any programs.
We need more details.
You say safe mode does not work, you have tried hitting F8 at boot up, ????
Was safe mode, keyboard and mouse all working. at one time.

Double check that the mouse and key board are correctly plugged in.

I also assume you are using XP

Go to windows updates and see if there are any updates.

i cant even get into my computer cause i cant type in my password. yes my mouse and keyboard both worked but for some reason they just dont anymore. i dont even see the light on my keyboard when i press caps lock etc. i cant get into safemode ive tried hitting f8 but it doesnt seem to register anything i press.

call 1888772 4357 Microsoft tell them u just installed service pack 2 and
these problems occurred, they will assist you free of charge, or wait till
an mvp here in the newsgroups helps you.If you do phone make sure you blame
it on sp2. or they will charge you.

Try to determine if the mouse and keyboard are at all operable. If
possible, attach these devices to another PC. If still dead, treat yourself
to new mouse and keyboard.

If this was just one or the other not working, I'd say check the
connections, reinstall drivers and all that good stuff. However, it's odd
that both devices are not working. Did something at all notable happen
between they're working and not working? Shutting down computer normally or
using hibernation instead?

Other approaches: Try a keyboard/mouse that are known to be good on this
computer. If still no activity, it's possible the ports for these devices
are damaged. If they use PS/2 connections, the motherboard may have to be
replaced. If PS/2, you may get by using USB mouse/keyboard or vice versa.
If USB, try PS/2.
