Hi,
Recently I had a problem with my computer with XP Pro
installed. I talked to the tech support from Dell (yes
it's a Dell), and ended up doing a repair installation to
XP.
Originally I get this blue-screen message whenever I boot
up:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I thought I had hardware problems but we couldn't identify
any problem with any of the hardware, thus decided to do a
repair installation.
After the repair installation, it would boot up properly
now and I can get to the log in screen... The problem is
that whenever I try to type something, they keyboard and
the mouse would both freeze. It looked suspiciously
similar to the problem specified in Knowledge Base article
324754... but I can't really perform any of the steps past
step 1. My BIOS is up-to-date, and I can't log into
Windows because I can't even get past the password screen.
My mouse is a USB mouse using a PS/2 port... so I've also
tried disabling legacy USB support in BIOS setup, using
the USB port(which the mouse stayed working but keyboard
still locks up), and using a PS/2 mouse. None of those
helped me.
I really don't want to try a fresh install if possible,
can someone shine some light on this situation? Thanks.
