During the installation of XP I think I selected the wrong country when
configuring the keyboard and now the @ and " characters reversed.

In control panel, keyboard option.....here is no facility to change this.

Can anyone suggest how I do this without reinstalling XP?

Thanks

Hi,

It should be in the regional and languages settings within the control
panel. After opening Regional and languages, select languages > details, in
the settings you should see installed services. From there you should be
able to select your keyboard layout.

Check your input method & language under the Control Panel's
Regional and Language Options. It sounds like you're using the wrong
version of English for your location.

Hi,

Glad I was able to help. Its very easy to miss the other options in the
control panel apps. I sometimes forget what option contains what option to
do what I want to do. It could be a sign of old age, madness, sanity or
insanity in some cases, or just starting to loose more marbles at a time
instead of just one at a time.
