Have this 'old' toshiba with win2k. When in safe mode, the labtop opeerate ok
and the key board can be use without any problem. However, when we on it in
normal mode, we just cant use the keys at all. It will 'self' repeating the
character [[[[[[ or *********** when we try to log it. My friend have slaved
the hdd and said have clear the Malwarebyte as well as spybot1.6 scans. Just
wondering what is caausing the problem and how do I rectify it? Many thanks
for your help

Try uninstalling/reinstalling any keyboard drivers/software. Get the files
from Toshiba's website for your specific model laptop. You'll need to do
this work in Safe Mode since your keyboard isn't working, or attach a USB
keyboard temporarily.

Uninstalled in S.M. and reboot, its the same situation and also even using
another keyboard. When power up in normal mode and when I clcick start, there
is a sound which sounds like the key repeating itself. So when I try to
rename a folder say, the 111111111111 will keeps repeating or when I try to
change the web address.

(fyi, The last time we have almost similar experience of key repeating
itself in another xp labtop, the shop changed the keyboard (and also seems to
replace the i386) but when we took the original keyboard and fix into 3rd
labtop, it works which means to say we got cheated previously).

We dont think our present problem is related to the key board. Is the i386
the same as in win2k or xp. Is there a way where we can replace the i386
folder.

The local toshiba technical support says that they dont support this model
at all and we have to call Japan for help ////). At the moment, cant connet
to internet (although it says connected 100.0 mbps but 0 packet
send/received).

So what can we do next? thanks

Back up your data and do a clean install of Win2k using whatever restore
method originally provided by Toshiba. If the symptoms continue on a clean
install, replace the laptop since it has hardware issues and has reached
the end of its useful life. If the clean install works, great. Install
updates and programs one at a time, testing after each install to see if
something you are adding is causing the issue.
