my computer (HP Pavilion N5425-LAPTOP Windows XP) keeps
making a loud winding noise, freezing, and then
displaying a blue screen which says

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Beginning dump of physical memory

If the computer physically makes an odd noise when it boots, then you most
likely have a bad hard disk or hard disk controller. Atapi.sys is your basic
IDE hard disk driver, so that doesn't really tell us to much except that the
cause of the blue-screen is hard disk related. Do you have any better luck
coming up in safe mode? I would normally say to just try updating your hard
disk controller driver, but if the drive is making a louder than normal
whirring noise, it may have gone bad.
