a few days ago I got a new computer:

Athlon XP 2600+
1gb PC2700 DDR ram (samsung)
Maxtor Diamondmax 9 plus 120gb (8mb cache)
AsRock K7S8XE motherboard

I tried to install windows XP (home and pro) on it and
everything went smoothly, until the computer had restarted
from the text based installation, into the GUI part of the
installation. There were about 34 mins left of the
installation when the screen went blue with the error
message (the most important parts of the error message is
displayed below):

Kernel_data_inpage_error
*** stop: 0x0000007a (0xe103a3f4, 0xc0000098, 0xbf8ed7dd,
0x3e3ba860)

win32k.sys - address bf8ed7dd Base at bf800000, datestamp
3b7de698

I tried 4-5 times and got the same thing over and over again.

I friend of mine told me that he had the same problem, and
that he solved it by simply switching the harddisk drive
that XP was going to be installed onto. Unfortunately
that's not an option for me.

I can't install windows 98 SE onto my new computer, since
the installation CD was customized for my old PC and
refuses to run. I managed to install windows 2000 onto the
new PC, but since I'm a gamer that OS has no use for me.

I've looked at what the error message means and there
doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the hardware
physically.

HELP! PLEASE! :)

Failure to install a Microsoft operating system is most usually
connected with bad hardware. The culprit is usually bad RAM, followed
by a bad hard drive. This is particularly true if you were doing a
clean install; i.e., not trying to upgrade to XP over an older
operating system. Since the computer is new, take it back.
