Keeps rebooting -XP Home

Having just loaded Windows XP Home on my brothers computer, it keeps rebooting after what seems a random time reporting that an RPC fault requires the system to shut down, which it does in about 60secs

It first happened as I was installing MS Office 2000 Pro, and also Outlook shuts down with an errorwithout properly starting

Has anyone experienced this before, and know a fix for it
