Hi I have posted a couple of times but i havent received
an answer, mayybe my problem is unique

when booting up the computer it gets so far (to the
windows XP screen) and then reboots. thenwhen it gets to
scan disk it reboots again and it can do this up to 5
times.

When it goes it is normally ok but then for exxample, when
i typed the command to convert from FAT32 to NTFS it did
it again.

I restarted and it carried out the command againa nd it
worked fine.

I have reforamtted etc and even got a new hard disk but
the issue is still occurring

Thanks a lot

All of the trouble areas seem to be when RAM would be highly implemented,
when there is intensive data handling (chkdsk and file system conversion)
and when there is increased hard drive activity. Power supply trouble, bad
ram, incorrect BIOS settings, wrong cable types or hard drive problems all
come to mind.

Is the power supply rating for the system adequate for all of the devices
that are connected to it? There are software diagnostics for RAM and hard
drives.

RAM diagnostic tool: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Hard drive diagnostics: download from the hard drive manufacturer's
website.

If overclocking, fall back to more conservative settings until this gets
sorted.
