Keeping windows open

Can anyone please tell me how I can keep a windon open
(eg Outlook Express) whilst clicking on a full screen
window in a program that is open (full screen eg netscape)
Every time i click on the main window at the back, it
minimises the smaller screen that I need to type into.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
