Hi,

I have a Windows XP desktop that I joined to a domain
running Windows 2000. In doing so, I now log in using a
user account I created in Active Directory.

Unfortunately, all the information and configurations I
had created as the WIn XP user are no longer available to
me. THis includes my Outlook email account, information
in the My Documents directory, bookmarks in IE, etc.

Can I get some suggestions for how to merge those two
user profiles/accounts so that I can access all the
information I had access to before?

MANY Thanks in advance!

Rafael

you may need admin rights for this but, go into
C:drive /documents and settings/your local account folder
then copy and paste the contents of your "my
documents", "my pictures", "desktop" etc into the
corresponding folders of your new domain account folder.

Outlook may need the accounts recreating or you may have
to "export"(from the file menu)your contacts/messages etc
to a pst file, save it on your hard drive then "import"
that pst file into your new Outlook profile

the alternative is to log on as the old (local) user,
then use the file and settings transfer wizard to save
everything to the hard drive, then log on as the domain
user and run the wizard again to import them back

start/programs/accessories/system tools/file and settings
transfer wizard

I had this same problem with a number of machines. The -best- tool I
found was from a company called ForensIT, the software is called
ProfWiz and it works GREAT! It's cheap too at only two bucks a seat
(last time I checked). Give it a try, it truly is the easiest, best
way to migrate to a domain while retaining your user settings. (i.e
Outlook PST, Favorites, Desktop, My Documents)
the alternative is to log on as the old (local) user,
then use the file and settings transfer wizard to save
everything to the hard drive, then log on as the domain
user and run the wizard again to import them back
