Keep getting duplicate messages.

When I open my mails the first mail will eventually open after a while then
after that a message appears saying that the 2nd mail could not be opened.
This started 3 days ago. I am now upto 22 mails and cannot open further than
the 1st mail.
The error message what appears is
Message No 2 could not be retrieved. A/C "mail.btinternet.com" Server
Mail.btinternet.com Protocol POP3, server response - ERR popgate inactivity
timeout. Port 110, Secure (SSL) No server Error: 0X800CCC90 Error Number
0X800420CD.

AS each day passes I am getting more mails. so cannot possibly open them as
I have a time out, (which I have increased to 5Min)I need to delete all the
mails especially this 2nd mail which may seem to be the problem. I think I
have opened them on yahoo mail, so I know whats there. I prefare to use
Windows Mail as its quicker to log in.
How can I start again
 
When a message can not be retrieved, it may be 'stuck' on the server.
In your browser go to the webmail portal, http://www.btinternet.com .
Log in, then delete any older emails you no longer want. That should
include the second oldest which appears to be the one causing the logjam.

If that does not fix the problem, which antivirus are you running? Some
of them are not very compatible with Windows Mail, and over time,
symptoms start showing up.
