This update was auto-installed overnight and my Outlook would not start, not
even in SAFE mode. I uninstalled the update and it works fine. Any
suggestions?

Had you already applied Service Pack 2 for Office 2007?
In which way does it "not work"?
Does it hang on the opening screen?
Do you get any errors?
What is logged to the Event Viewer?

Were other updates installed on the computer at the same time? If so, a
reinstall (and a reboot) may work correctly, otherwise wait and see if
windows update installs it again. it's not an overly important update unless
you work with a lot of meeting requests.

Hi Diane and thanks, I'll just watch for further upgrades.

Hi Roady,
I have everything on auto for that particular computer so I haven't checked
if SP2 was already applied and yes, it just hangs on the opening screen and
says "not responding". Then, when I try to close it, it suggests safe mode,
does the same thing. Then when I try to close safe mode, it tries an
autorepair which goes through fine but still does not work. I've left
everything on auto for that computer to act as a test for others and I avoid
anything that gives me trouble for the rest of my system.
thanks

There is a thread on this on MS Forums under the topic Microsoft > Forums

where the issue is failure of ActiveSynch with various devices (my Palm

user was able to uninstall Security Update for Windows XP (KB961373). I ran
system restore which worked but now all the following remain uninstalled and
ready to install. What a mess.

The auto-installer, reinstalled the update overnight. Again my Outlook was
stuck. I uninstalled again and rebooted. Everything worked. I thought
perhaps I should install Office 2007 SP2 (per Roady's question was it already
installed) - did the install only to find not only was Outlook getting stuck
at the initial screen, it was crashing. I had to download the utility from
Microsoft to uninstall SP2, get to an administrator command line, run the
utility, remove SP2, reboot and finally my Outlook works again. I have
turned auto updates off for the time being.

my test clients have already the patch kb969907 installed. i heared from the
test user that after that patch is installed and the user will start outlook,
it says outlook is preparing for the first start.

is that a bug or is that really needed?

I'm just affraid to rollout this patch, because of the many valls to our
service desk.

can anyone help me?

kind regards

Markus

I'm having exactly the same problem ,and Office SP2 etc were Auto Installed
like yours...After doing a restore ,I finally Narrowed it down to this update.
I do have one suspicion however. There was an add on from iTunes to Outlook
(I know..It sounds crazy, I thought the same thing!) I had read this in a
Blog, and looked in Outlooks Trust center ,and to my surprise there was an
add on for iTunes in Outlook (Likely r/t Mobile/ iPhone synch?) I'm not sure
of the Fix at this point, but hopefully MS is aware there is a problem!
Problem seems to be r/t update KB969907

Good Luck!

OK It is indeed the iTunes Add-in (From our "Friends" at Apple! LOL)

To fix this go to the Control Panel>Programs and Features>View Installed
Updates> Find and Check KB969907 and Uninstall it.
Your Outlook 2007 will then start successfully.
In Outlook go to "Tools">Trust Center>Click "Add Ins" in the Left Column>See
The Drop down box at the bottom which should say Manage : COM Add-Ins> Click
"Go"> Highlight the iTunes Add-in>Click Remove.
You can then Install KB969907 (Which is listed as an important update)
without a problem.

Good Luck...And we'll have to watch and ensure iTunes doesn't reinstall it
or we'll may be back to square one!
