I followed all the directions and, even with the registry fix, I still get
the Search screen. It's extremely annoying..

So, how do I back it out?

Printdir.exe seems to be for software developers or de-buggers, not common
folk who just want to print a nice listing of their files with some of the
fields, and maybe put it into an Excel database that can be sorted or
enhanced.

Does anyone know about any free directory printing executables. One that
would include a choice of directory information would be nice.

Several methods to accomplish this.......I like Tushar's best if importing to
Excel.

To add a "Print Directory" feature to Explorer, go to
this KB Article.

Or you can download Printfolder 1.2 from.....

http://no-nonsense-software.com/freeware/

I use PF 1.2 and find it to be more than adequate with custom
features.

OR Go to DOS(Command) prompt and directory.
Type DIR >MYFILES.TXT

All the above create a *.TXT file which can be opened in Notepad or
Excel.

One more method if you want to by-pass the *.TXT file and pull
directly to Excel is to use Tushar Mehta's Excel Add-in. This allows filtering
and sorting once you have the data in Excel.

http://www.tushar-mehta.com/ scroll down to Add-ins>Directory
Listing.

Download the ZIP file and un-zip to your Office\Library folder.

Thanks, but I need to GET RID OF microsoft's printdir.bat because everytime I
go into Windows Explorer and click on a folder I am taken to the Search
screen. Yes, I did the fix in KB321379 and changed the Root Key in the
registry, but it still takes me to the Search screen.
