My husband installed SP2 before I had a chance to tell him not to. We are
operating XP and restored the computer to a time before SP2 but KaZaa still
does not work. He uninstalled KaZaa and tried to download it again, but it
will not download. It gives us the error that it was incomplete in
downloading. We use KaZaa and had no problems until he installed SP2. Any
ideas or suggestions on how to get KaZaa working again???

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Smiley Central, Xupiter,
Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately
(but without understanding the consequences) installed, two products
that are quite effective (at finding and removing this type of
scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions.
It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your
system against most future intrusions. I use both and generally
perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:

PC Hell Spyware and Adware Removal Help

Neither adware nor spyware, collectively known as scumware,
magically install themselves on anyone's computer. They are almost
always deliberately installed by the computer's user, as part of some
allegedly "free" service or product.

While there are some unscrupulous malware distributors out there,
who do attempt to install and exploit malware without consent, the
majority of them simply rely upon the intellectual laziness and
gullibility of the average consumer, counting on them to quickly click
past the EULA in his/her haste to get the latest in "free" cutesy
cursors, screensavers, "utilities," and/or wallpapers.

If you were to read the EULAs that accompany, and to which the
computer user must agree before the download/installation of the
"screensaver" continues, most adware and spyware, you'll find that
they _do_ have the consumer's permission to do exactly what they're
doing. In the overwhelming majority of cases, computer users have no
one to blame but themselves.

There are several essential components to computer security: a
knowledgeable and pro-active user, a properly configured firewall,
reliable and up-to-date antivirus software, and the prompt repair (via
patches, hotfixes, or service packs) of any known vulnerabilities.

The weakest link in this "equation" is, of course, the computer
user. No software manufacturer can -- nor should they be expected
to -- protect the computer user from him/herself. All too many people
have bought into the various PC/software manufacturers marketing
claims of easy computing. They believe that their computer should be
no harder to use than a toaster oven; they have neither the
inclination or desire to learn how to safely use their computer. All
too few people keep their antivirus software current, install patches
in a timely manner, or stop to really think about that cutesy link
they're about to click.

Firewalls and anti-virus applications, which should always be used
and should always be running, are important components of "safe hex,"
but they cannot, and should not be expected to, protect the computer
user from him/herself. Ultimately, it is incumbent upon each and
every computer user to learn how to secure his/her own computer.

Kazaa is one of the *worst* sources of hijackware on the planet, my dear.
Legal issues regarding file-sharing aside, while Kazaa itself might not be
considered hijackware, the default install of it gives you "drive by"
installs of all sorts of bad guys. Steer clear of Kazaa, please.

You cannot open Sharman Networks Kazaa version 2.52 in Windows XP with

First... get rid of it and all the junkware that was bundled with it by
running KazaaBegone from http://www.spychecker.com/program/kazaagone.html
Then, if you just HAVE to download music, use Zazaalite as recommended by
jeff (hondaman).

I think the problem could be your windows XP built-in firewall, i have
noticed after installing sp2, windows firewall updates the ACL's (access
control list's)of the firewall. These ACL's stop file sharing to certain
communities. If you continue to run kazaa, then i suggest installing
dietKazaa, this utility strips of all the bundled junk you have to accepted
during full installation of KaZaa.
I dont know how big your drive is or how you setup your folders, but here is
a suggestion, if you decide to re-format your main drive, if for example you
have a 80g drive, then create 3 equal partitions, keep C: and D (ntfs) and
the last partition F: (fat32). It's my observations that NTFS partions can
see fat32 content, but FAT32 cannot view NTFS contents. So what, you might
say?? and to that i say security first, play time later.Meaning install
Kazaa on FAT32 partition, since your shared folders contents can be accessed
by you from your c: drive. By installing Kazaa on a FAT32 partition, you
eliminate would be hackers and crackers from propagating to your main drive.

best of luck

Errrrrrrrrrrr, why would you WANT to get that piece of....well, I wouldn't.
In fact, I would do my best to remove any traces of it from the system. And
why would you NOT want to install SP2 is another question begging to be
asked.

What are you downloading with that crapware???? If it's music, movies,
you may want use the "binary" newsgroups with a good downloader like
"GrabIt" and all your probs will be solved.............

I have tried five different music downloading software and I think RealPlayer
Music Store downloads are best. Of course KaZaa must be the worst.

Why would you want to break the law? Forget Kazaa and pay for your
music etc downloads at a reputable site.
