Now NOTHING works. I cannot get on the internet, I've got no sound
whatsoever, and Norton 2006 refuses to even install. Can anyone help me with
this? I know the question is a little vague, but I can provide details if
need be.

You need the hardware drivers.
Without them - Windows XP cannot communicate properly with most of your
hardware.

There may have been some base drivers included in the install - or not - but
in any case - you would be better off visiting each hardware piece
manufacturer's web page and looking in their support downloads for the
latest driver for your OS/piece of hardware and downloading/installing it.

As you have already done a clean install it seems - your only resource for
finding out what hardware you have...
- Invoice (detailed I hope)
- Open the computer and look

Good Luck!

I considered this, but there's one problem: I cannot access the internet from
the computer that needs the drivers. I know what hardware I have, but I can't
download the drivers. I need the drivers for my network card so I can get
online and download the drivers. It's a vicious cycle =\

Now I'm reminded why I prefer Apple. No drivers.

Apple (Mac OS whatever) requires drivers too.
Just used to be you couldn't really choose much with your Apple hardware -
so they could include (easily) whatever you needed in the install. It's
gotten even more extensive now that OS X works on Intel/AMD machines.

You installed from a CD. You didn't have Internet access then.
You can use a thumb drive... CD... DVD.. External hard drive... Floppy
diskette... ZIP...

Right click on My Computer, Select Properties, Select Hardware Tab, Device
Manager, See any exclamation points??????

Those are the drivers that need to be fixed. Probably your Network Adapter
and Audio, Etc.

Updating to SP2 if you have XP will allow you to right click and search for
drivers. This should be done after you get the Network Adapter working of
course.

Hope this helps.... Bob
