I have been using SP2 on my computer almost since it was first released.
Every is going great. But I went to install SP2 on my girl friend's
daughter's computer, and now, I can't stay logged in using a dial-up
connetion.
The system in question is a Dell with 768Mb of memory and a 2.6G processor.
She normally connects with AOL.
I installed my WMconnect under my ID and still get disconnected even though
I'm booting clean. I ran several free virus scanners and Spyware scanners and
the system is clean.
Active non-system processes are:
BCMSMMSG.exe
hkcmd.exe
msmsgs.exe
explorer.exe
taskmgr.exe
Any care to help?

I also am having that same issue on one of my clients
machines. A dell as well... I've installed this on
Gateways and Dells with no problems untill this system.
I checked the dial up properties, TCP/IP. The system is
clean of Spyware, the Norton IS/AntiVirus up to date and
the system has been cleaned of the Adware files.
That fixed the spyware/virus issues. I then installed the
sp2 and the dial-up fails to connect.

Hi Black Wolf Standing

I resolved my issue, here's what worked for me. I had an
error 769 "Error Message When you Try to Connect to the
Internet Through a PPPoE Connection" which my client's
DSL connection used.

Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;316395

This worked immediately..

There is also an update to SP2 KB 884020-X86-enu.exe

It's supposed to help with connectivity issues and sp2
original load.

Hope this works for you
