Hi
I use WIN XP with SP2

I received an email with an attachment.doc When I tried to open it I
received an error message such as this: " This program is not
associated with a file and cannot be opened" Then it went on to say
that I could open it if I went to, and I can't read my own writing, I
believe it was, "Folder Options Control".

Where might I find, "File Options Control"...?? Is there an other way
to open such an attachment?

Mike

Mike;
What program was used to create the attachment?
If you are unsure, contact the sender.
You need that program or an acceptable reader.

Save it first..
Open Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works or MAYBE Microsoft WordPad and choose
File --> Open and browse to and select the file you just "save as"'d.

Powerpoint, etc?

Did you do an "in-place" upgrade? Meaning you inserted the CD while in your
previous OS, it asked you what you wanted to do, you chose upgrade, it did
some stuff for about an hour or longer and it was done?

If not - you need to re-install your other applications, like Microsoft
Office.

Shenan, yes I did the full upgrade. When I click on start, then programs I
don't see word, excel and the rest of the applications I had with Windows 98.

Have you looked in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office?
(Look in - then - OFFICE10 or OFFICE11 subdirectory, depending on the
version of Office you had installed.. for example, MS Word is
"WINWORD.EXE")
