Hi all:

I was looking for information on an old software "friend" that I used
for many years until 2004 (WinWhatWhere--->Investigator--->TrueActive
Monitor). Google search turns up nothing--no website. CDW Download
stops DL'ing Investigator 5 and does nothing. Have they been completely
absorbed by the government and are no longer available to ordinary folk
or what.

BTW, I re-installed Investigator 4.2 which works just fine (better than
the later TAM version).

Just curious as to why the website is no longer accessible or in
existence.

Thanks

The software logs and records EVERYTHING done on the computer--all
applications loaded, all keystrokes, all internet sites visitied, etc.
It can operate in stealth mode (for employers, parents and paranoid
spouses); it can email its records anywhere.

It was stared as a small shareware company (I have the original floppy
disk) and later was adopted by a number of big companies and government
agencies (per their old website).

I have a home-based business and my computer hardware and software are
deductible (IRS) based on the percentage of time that I use them for
business purposes. The way that the claimed percentage of business use
is proven in the event of an IRS audit (never happened so far--knock on
wood) is by having a contemporaneous computer usage log. The log is
created as the work is done; I was told by the CPA who set me up in
1992 that IRS does not accept logs created after IRS calls for an audit
(i.e., the business must have a "comtemporaneous" computer log created
at the time that the work is being done). I have all of my logs going
back to June 12, 1992.

WinWhatWhere was my 2nd such software. I changed to another in 2004 and
decided (day before yesterday) to go back to the oldie. They seem to
have "disappeared"--glad that I have the 2003 CD.

Looks like it's still going?

Sandy:
Thanks for the links; however, the old www.winwhatwhere.com website and
its replacement, www.trueactive.com (as mentioned in the PCMag article)
are not available and there is no forwarding link. So...I do not know
if it's still available. Very, very strange. Could it be because the
program is now considered spyware?

Maybe the NSA took over this software? Have you tried looking for a download
at http://nsa.gov ?

Thanks much Bob. Looks like they are out of business. (Of course in my
standard WashDC frame of mind, I don't really believe that, given their
success and strong reputation.) Anyway, I will treasure and protect my
old CD.
