would anyone hapen to know if an AMD Barton 3200+ on a DFI lan Party N-Force 2 would happen to perform better than an Intel 2.8GHz Northy???

Nope, I don't know :D

But I'd gamble the AMD would win.

If you download the freebie version of SiSoftSandra 2004, there's a CPU benchmarking program within it where you can select different setups to run a comparison with your own system.

You're given four choices. With a little luck, you can select the two systems you've mentioned, although you can't actually specify the motherboard, just the CPU, I believe.

Let's put it this way, my Gigabyte board/XP3200 gets better benchmarks than my mate's Asus board/Pentium 3Ghz.

ah ok cheers.

If it helps, im looking for higher frame rates in Flight Simulator. My 2.8c just couldn't hack it though graphics may be an issue...

Anything around for the samish price as a radeon 9800 pro? (about 140 quid) that would perform better?

For tat price, atm, you've only got two choices, as far as I know, 9800 Pro or GeoForce FX5900.

They run pretty much neck and neck, I've owned both, and the 9800 Pro beats the 5900 in 3D Mark 2004.

But in real everyday usage terms, I found it hard to tell the difference.

Although both do look a little different. I run CoD & UT 2004 in 1600 x 1200 with most eye candy turned on, the 9800 definitely looks better to me, but that is a personal preference thing.

I'm actually selling the FX5900 shortly, I've scrapped one machine, I really don't need it, have a few pieces to sell. Quite a few parts went to machines I've just built for people, but I still have some parts left.

The Radeon 9800 Pro is better than the FX5900 in most modern games, it handles DirectX 9 games flawlessly, unlike the FX5900!

The radeon also takes less power than an FX5900, so it would be better with your little power conundrum you had earlier.

If you get the Hightech ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Iceq for £170 you can overclock it and increase performance by about 5%-10% without having to change the cooling on it! But i dont think that justifies the £30 more youll be spending if you just get a normal one like the Connect3D from savastore ( http://www.savastore.com/category.a...ategory_name=Video+Card+-+AGP&Page=16&keyword= ).

As for the processors, the Pentium 4 is more than likely better, but its costs a heck of a lot more, so i'd definatly get the AMD chip.

3D Mark 2004, where the hell you get that from?

Flops,

Please don't give people heart attacks! Poor Reefsmoka:)

It wasnt my heart, it was abit lower than that, and it tore my boxer shorts -_-

oh ok - have you seen any benchmarks anywhere that back it up?

if it makes any difference - im looking for frame rate improvements in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - thats really where my current system struggles.

Hey Chris,

Can you tell me what aircrafts are featured? Just tell me which latest ones. How do you find the graphics?

Quaddy mate ;) I HAVE to say FS2004 ACOF is the most awesome game i have ever played. The graphics are superb - you wont find any better graphics for the aircraft in any other game availiable. I do have settings set to very high but still - absolutely amazing.

If you like i'll take some screenshots and put them in this thread for you.

About let me see...100% of the airports in the ENTIRE world are in the database to choose from. The ground textures are a bit dodgy when your flying low but the airport textures are ok.

2004 has improved weather and clouds. Also ATC services are much more complex and realistic. Now i can borrow my sisters headset, i log on to "the zone" and fly with other people from over the world and there are designated controllers that actually speak to you and you speak back its so realistic!

O.k the aircraft are...

Bell Jet Ranger 206b
Boeing 737, 747, 777
Ford Tri-motor
Douglas DC3
Extra 300s
Robinson Beta helicopter
Bombardier Learjet 45
Cessna 172 and grand caravan and there may be another model...
Schweizer Sailplane
Lokheed Vega 5b and 5c
Curtiss Jenny
Piper Cub
Vickers Viscount Biplane

i think thats it for the default ones...may have missed maybe one out...

As for what i do...i download planes from www.simviation.com and install them. My personal favourite is the Vickers VC10 which even comes with an RAF version and a refuelling boom!

i bet you wish you never got me started on planes haha...;)

Something common between the two of us!:) Thank you so much for that great feedback I will get it within this week.

I would be great if you could post screen shot of the one you like and two of others say 777 and 747, can you manage that? Greatly appreciate your generousity.

Think i can manage a screenshot or 2 or 50 :D

Sorry about the quality of them, they are VERY speckly and VERY blurred! - compression or something like that...bmp's too large to upload here.

Note that the water textures are custom not standard. Easy enough to get though.

Sorry - i would upload them as BMP's if the file limit wasnt 100Kb

you will soon see how great the graphics are so long as your computer will hack it (don't know what you have)

they look good to me even for shoddy quality, god damn it i need an upgrade!!!!

last flight simulator i played was fighters anthology got to get back into it. missing out on all the action!!
