I am using IE 6 SP1 and have been annoyed bye
the "JScript Runtime Error" message from some websites.
What will be the cause of the problems? Is it the webpage
that I am connecting to that has a problem or is it my
browser's fault?

James,
Most of the time this is just errors on the web site ..... not your end.
However some ad-blocking apps will cause this (script error) when the ad or
banner fails to display.

Internet Options | Advanced
Select: "Disable script debugging"
Uncheck: "Display a notification about every script error", click Apply\Ok

Verify these Registry entries exist and are correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Disable Script Debugger"="yes"
"Error Dlg Details Pane Open"="yes"
"Error Dlg Displayed On Every Error"="no"
"NoJITSetup"=dword:00000000
"NoWebJITSetup"=dword:00000001

Note: always Export before editing .....
[or]
Download the latest version of Windows Script 5.6 for XP\2K
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Try installing that and see if it helps with your problem.

Many thanks for your posting...

I had serious problems with a clients machine. There IE was totally shot
away, infact many applications were failing etc. I can only assume that
since they had had a multitude of virus, these must have disturbed the
registry.

When going to the Microsoft Updates website, nothing would happen. The
System Information utility was not responding and when I went to the IE
about the version, cipher and product id etc were all blank. After
downloading the latest version of Windows Script 5.6 for XP/2K all these
problems have been solved.

I can now go to the Windows Update website and now I get some feedback,
pity it now says Windows Update Error, but hey I'm getting closer.

I think it would be easier to re-format the hard disk and reinstall XP
from scratch... :-)
