I need some help please. After just installing a cable modem, I have also taken on an unwanted bug. About every ten minutes it sounds like thunder coming from my speakers. I have run Norton antivirus but can't find anything

Probably it could be Netsky.D virus!
Netsky D produce sounds like tornado.
Try to find with Netsky.D removeable exe tool on internet!
Also instal freeware Ad Aware 6.0 program to clean your regestriy.

Ad Aware is a joke. SpyBotSD is greatly superior to Ad Aware as all
other adware removal tools are tested against SpyBot Search & Destroy.

to clean the registry, use regscrub.
spybot gets the junk out, although you really should set
up your browser to not allow this in the first place.

I agree. That's why I don't use OE or IE on the Windows Box.
