I have Win XP Pro on my notebook. Over the weekend I was trying to add my
home domain to the system. That happened successfully but when I returned
back to work I am unable to join the Work Domain. On speaking to the Sys
Admin guy I was told only admin can help m/c to join a domain!!!

1. Can I not have multiple domains ?
2. If I have an existing domain a/c why can't I join the Domain myself with
my existing user id?

TIA

1. No, you can logon to multiple domains that are trusted to the domain your
workstation belongs to.
2. By default you can join 10 computers to the directory, how ever this can
have been restricted by any administrator.

No, your machine can only be a MEMBER and log itself onto ONE domain
at a time.

Even a user, who can have accounts in multiple domains, can only "LOGON"
to ONE at a time -- that same user might be able to "AUTHENTICATE" in
other domains (for resource access) by using either expliticit
authentication or
the trust relationships.

Notice the case is BY DEFAULT, and that his Admin told him that he needed
administrative help.

It is fairly common to disable the feature -- and apparently that is what
his
admins did (based on the behavior AND the instructions of the admin.)

Yes, the membership can only belongs to one domain at once sorry if that
wasn't clear.

Thanks for all the feedbacks.
The last question is how do I join Multiple domains. When I tried joining
home domain it kind of wiped off my Work Domain.

Thanks

He was wrong. A machine can only join ONE domain

Question is I have an Domain @ home and at work I have a Domain. Can't both
these domain show on my drop down list of Domain so that when I come 2 wk I
choose to login 2 work domain and at home I login to my home domain?
If its possible to achieve this settings please pass on some tips.

TIA

it´s only possible if the domains are trusted to each other, your home and
work domain.

No, not really. Not unless the domains are in the same Forest or
the one with the MACHINE account trusts the other one.

This does NOT mean you cannot access resources in multiple
domains.

Remember earlier, I mentioned that you can only have a machine
or user LOGIN to one domain.

But you can then "authenticate" for resource access if you have
an account in another domain (net use, Explorer, etc.)
