Heres something no-one told me about until i'd already shamed myself- a lot of companies use tests designed by the SHL to test numerical and verbal reasoning aptitude. I took one for a recent job and bombed the numerical one in particular because i`m utterly unfamiliar with them (well...thats my excuse for now!)

Theres some free practice to those who think they may come across them during interview processes.

The numerical one is fairly abstract, mainly regarding interpolating data. Tests work out at 1 question per minute. AFAIK, the aim is not to finish the test, but to get the answers right.

The "verbal resoning" test is to read a paragraph or 2, then decide if statements given underneath are true, false or unable to tell- the only data to be considered is that given in the paragraph(s)- external knowledge is irrelevant.

Hope this helps someone :)

Thanks for the head up Kenny, I know loads of my friends got tests like these leaving Uni so it's good to get some practice :)

Yeah, i did loads of these when applying for graduate jobs after uni, the first couple of times you do them you're like "what the fook!!".

Practice is good though, cause they use the same questions over and over!! ;-)
