Hi-
I found that some of the features of Webs Unlimited JBots2002plus did not
work in FP2003 -eg.,
'greetings-time of day'. Webs Unlimited say that there is a fresh download
available which will cure this. However, the new download will not install,
I just get a message saying: 'Error reading setup initialization file'. I
have tried to install it on two separate computers (each with XP) - have
uninstalled the old one first, disabled antivirus programmes etc., but
without
success. Fortunately I kept a copy of the old version which will install -
at least I can get most of the features.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, found a cure?

Brian.

Have you contacted (e-mail address removed) regarding the install issue?

Hi -
Yes, I contacted them and they said first of all:

MS broke the object model in FP3 after the Technical Refresh beta. What you’
re seeing is a result of that. We’ve created new version that work around
the problems and you can download them from
http://www.websunlimited.com/download service. You’ll need to uninstall
before installing the new version.

I did download this several times but each time I try to install, I get a
message saying 'Error reading setup initialization file'
WU say that it must be a fault at my end, but the same problem occurs on my
other computer, and also the previous version of Jbots will install OK
though not all the features will work in FP2003. If I open FP2002, they are
working OK there.

Thanks for your reply,
Brian.

Ok, but only Webs Unlimited can help you installed their application.

The ones that do not work are caused by a bug in the FP3 Object Model and
deals with using style sheets. Any of our components that place elements
into the page also include a specific CSS selector so that you can modify
the look of the component via CSS.

The bugs appeared when MS released the Technical Refresh of Beta 2. We
issued an update that works around the problems and offer it as a free
download to all users of J-Bots and other Webs Unlimited products.

MS was aware of the problems prior to RTM but opted not to correct them.

Brian,

We also have tens of order each day for J-Bots and we have no other
installation problem except this one. The normal cause of this that the
downloaded file is corrupt. If you have a friend with a connect try the
download there then use sneaker net to try on your machine.

All of this was explained in your support request.

Hi Mike - thanks for your replies - unfortunately I still haven't been able
to install the new version - have downloaded afresh several times on two
different computers but still get the same result: 'error reading setup
initialization file'.

The only workaround I can find is to have both FP2002 and FP2003 open (both
with the same webpage open), then create, say, a popup in FP2002 using the
original version of Jbots, then save and refresh the page in FP2003.

What is sneaker net by the way?
Cheers,
Brian.

Brian,

First we do not support dual installations of FrontPage. That may be causing
the problem but I would doubt it if setup is unable to initialize. Dual
installation normally installs but J-Bots relies upon the registry system
installed by FP and it only has one.

sneaker.net is downloading then saving to CD-R and hand carrying (walking it
over in your sneakers) to your machine.

Thanks for the reply Mike - I hadn't heard the term 'sneakers net' before!

The dual installation works (with the original JBots 2002) - I get the
jbots appearing in both programmes - it's just that not all of them work in
FP2003. As you say, if setup is unable to initialize setup for the new
version, it's unlikely to be the problem.

I'll keep plugging away at it all the same!!
Brian.

If I remove it from FP2003 it also is removed from FP2002 so a dual install
is the only way I can get at least something to work. Uninstalling FP2003
and just using FP2002 from now on seems the only way but obviously I prefer
to use 2003. Many of the websites I have created use JBots, - I suppose I'll
just have to redo them using an alternative to JBots2002.

Thank you anyway for your help,
Brian.

Thanks - I'll give it a try now,
brian.

MD WebsUnlimited.com said:
Uninstall FP 2002, then remove J-Bots and do a Help | Detect and Repair in
FP 2003 to correct the registry entries.
Next, reinstall J-Bots from a know good download.
