WinXP professional. 512Meg ram IP is AOL (They can't help, I have
tried)
I have the latest Java installed, I have checked and it reports so.
I can't get it to run ie a Chess game in pogo.com even.
It tries to start but stays forever on the JavaSun loading up.
It is allowed full access in my Mcafee firewall.
It is enabled in Internet settings.
Java used to run OK on my PC a while back with WinXP. It may not be working
since loading Professional , I can't be sure ?
I have tried all the usual hints from other posts.
Any ideas ? Thanks Stuart

Do you have Sun version JRE 1.5.0_04?? I had problems with Pogo with the
1.4.2.xxx ones. I didn't find the Pogo tech help to be that good tho. Took
a bit of fiddling with settings, but it works OK now. (XP Home)

I have tried all of these but to no avail. But....... In IE internet
options where you select Java (Sun) (it was selected already) (there is
no JavaSun 2 by the way)
Use JRE 1.5.0_04 for <applet> (requires restart)
What does (requires restart) mean ? My PC has been restarted every day, do I
need to do something to ensure the "restart" is satisfied ? But what ?

Hi Stuart

I pulled up IE (I use Firefox mostly) and the *Java Console* was there.
Perhaps you should uninstall from Add/Remove and reinstall the latest
version, which is 1.5.0_04. I just checked my Startup File and that is what
is showing.

As for "restart"......Sun Java usually means restart your browser. This is
the download page and on the right it says the above re restarting. It also
provides a test to verify that Java is properly loaded. I would try that
first.

I have a similar problem with my copy of IE. All of the sudden, Java
doesn't work in IE. I can't load any applets from any Web page. As far
as I can tell, Java is properly installed and enabled. It works fine in
my other browser, Firefox.

I hope we can both find some kind of solution.

Success with my Java. It now runs fine. There was nothing wrong with it.
Whilst looking around I found that in Task Manager there was a process
running that was taking 98% of the CPU usage, a programme I wasn't even
using. I haven't had any sucess stopping it running from actual PC startup
yet despite trying several options available in the Task Manager. However as
soon as I "end process" (stop this exe file), my CPU usage drops to 4%. My
Java / chess ie Pogo game / Aol runs fine.
If anyone can help me stop this exe file from starting in the first place
please let me know. I may just have to delete the programme as a last resort.
Stuart

Perhaps if you said what the actual program/process was someone will be
able to help with how to stop it or if it should be stopped.
Have you been into the program and looked at the options or preferences to
see if you can stop it from starting up with Windows.
Joan

The file is lvhidsvc.exe I have since found out that many other
people are having problems with this file. It is associated with a TV card.
Hopefully I'll now be able to deal with it. If your Java doesn't run check
for this process taking 98% of your CPU usage.
Thanks everyone for their interest.
Stuart
