Unless you installed Service Pack 1 for Windows XP between September 2002
and February 2003 its likely that you don't have the Microsoft version of
the Java runtime installed. The Sun version of the runtime can be downloaded
from http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp , though some online java
applets/games however were designed to use specific Microsoft extensions
which means they do not function correctly on the Sun version.
Microsoft has since stopped distributing their version of the runtime for
legal reasons but you can find more information and download links here: http://mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php
