java applet not working

My java has suddenly stopped working. Pages won't load.
I get an error page that says to clear out the broser's
cache. I have done this. It also says to shut off the
java JIT compiler. I have also done this. I've also
reinstalled java and nothing has helped. It was also
suggested to reinstall IE 6.0 but I couldn't find a link
on the microsoft website to do this. Can anyone help
me? I have Windows XP and IE 6.0.
