I wonder if anyone could help me.
I have noticed on add/remove programs
'Java2 runtime environment SE V1.4.2.04'
Its size is 135.00 MB
This seems a huge program, one of the top 3 largest on my computer.
Should it be this size?
Im a bit of a novice, and appologies for my lack of knowledge, but an
advice would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks
Le

Yes, it is a large program. Mine is 120MB. You might think of updating.
The version I have, and it's not the very latest, is 1.5.0.10.

Without the Java runtime environment a significant number of
web sites would not display properly on your computer. That
said, some people believe that Java is a security risk. Whether
you have it installed on your computer is a decision you'll
have to make after doing some research on the subject.

At the very least you should be running the latest version. You
can uninstall the outdated version from your computer and
install the current one from this web site.

Download Java Software

FYI, it's not unusual for the this program to take up more than
100MB of hard drive space.

Good luck

If you are using any version of Sun Java that is prior to JRE Version 6.0,
then you are strongly urged to remove any/all versions.
There are numerous vulnerabilities in them and they are actively being exploited.

It is highly suggested that you update to the latest version which is Sun Java JRE/JSE
Version 6.0

Simple check, look under...
C:\Program Files\Java

The only folder under that folder should be the latest version.

Such as...
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0

I'm coming late to the thread, but over and above the other answers you've
received, let me add that there's nothing particularly "huge" about 135MB.
In fact, it's tiny. Considering the prices of hard drives these days, you
are talking about an amount of disk space worth somewhere around 15 cents
US.
