Please help! I've searched newsgroups and hw manufacturer
site for tips and/or updates -no luck...
(I'm running OS: XP with all latest updates/patches.)
(I'm using IBM's CD-RW hardware of "LG CD-RW CED-8080B".)

PROBLEM:
I can't copy file from hard drive (c) to cd-rw drive (e).

MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO FIX PROBLEM:
Following Windows help, I bring up "my computer", click on
the 37 kb ".doc" file to be copied from C:, click on
"copy this file" in the "File and Folders Tasks".

The "Copy Items" dialog box comes up. In it, I click on
"CD Drive (E:)", then click on "Copy" button at bottom.

Immediately, I get the fatal red "X" popup window, with the
error message:
"E:\ is not accessible."
"Incorrect Function."

I've put one of my daughter's games in E: and XP can access
E: without problem.

I've used E: to restore a file using a backup program that
runs couple times/week and again, it accessed E no problem.

I've tried turning off my Norton anti-virus and Norton
firewall -still unable to copy file to cd-rw (e:).

I've tried other files and other types, -never able to copy
to cd-rw (e:)

I AM able to copy the ".doc" file to my downloads
directory.

And I've checked the ".doc" file has no special permissions
set.

And I've checked my manufacturer (IBM) has no device driver
updates for my cd-rw.

And I've searched Microsoft newgroups without finding
similar problem.

So, I'm at a COMPLETE loss.

I've tried my darndest, is there any chance you can help?

I send sincere thanks in advance!!!!!

right click on the file, and selct send to <cdrw drive> - go to the cdrw
drive icon in my computer, double click, in the file menu select "write
these files to cd".

Hmmmmmm.....No, didn't quite work...extra problem here?

I did as you suggested, but CDRW does not appear in list of
"send to" choices.
(Only hoices are:
"Compressed (zipped) Folder"
"Desktop (create shortcut)"
"Mail Recipient"
"My Documents"
"Netscape Messenger"
"3 1/2 Floppy (A:)" )

Any ideas why CDRW (E:) isn't showing up there?

One other suggestion Jerry. Go to LG Electronics website. lgelectronics.com
and check for latest firmware updates. The site is very helpful and easy to
follow. I has the same problem trying to backup with EasyCD Writer.

Open "my computer", right click on E drive, choose properties, click on
"recording tab", make sure "enable CD recording on this drive" is checked,
click "OK" and reboot. "send to" should now have "CD drive (E)" as an
option. Send the files you want to copy to E. When done, right click on E
again (as above) and choose "write these files to CD". Make sure you are
using a blank CDR or CDRW. Once the first files are copied, you can
continue to add files until CD is full.

Good luck

Woody (and everyone else who helped),

YES! This was key that solved the problem:
Open "my computer"
right click on E drive
choose properties
click on "recording tab"
click on "enable CD recording on this drive" option
click "Apply"
click "OK"
(reboot unnecessary)

Now "CDRW (E:)" appears as "send to" option and I can
report I've successfully burned the file onto the CD!

Again, THANKS everyone!

Its just as easy to open Windows Explorer and drag the files you wish to
burn onto cd over the CDRW drive letter. Then when you have finished
dragging required files, click on the CDRW drive and select WRITE THESE
FILES TO CD"Thats all I do. Much easier.
