Anyone else out there having this trouble:

itunes (version 6 readme updated october 13, 2005) installs but fails
to start up on windowsxp sp2.

No error no warning nothing, I tried running from the menu and by
running the executable from the command line.

I am setting up a computer for my dad and most programs seemed to work
fine, I suppose he can do without itunes.

ideas so far: antivirus/security issues, bad build, bad install (I
tried reinstalling).

Just posting to see if anyone else has similar problems,

Thank you for your time,

Turloch

Perhaps this would be a better place to look:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

Don't forget the "Applie Discussions" links in the lower right corner of
the page.

More than likely, the computer has a software firewall running that is
preventing iTunes from phoning home to big brother and causing it to crash
before it's able to start. Do check the Task Manager and kill any iTunes
process that is running in the background before trying to launch the
program again.

Thanks for the input.

deinstall reboot install reboot seems to have fixed the problem.
What was wrong before will forever remain a mystery :) .

My Dad's computer is same problem, only I can't fix by above method. I'm
pretty expert. It's latest sp2. I've tried uninstalling and even cleaning
out every reference to apple or itunes. no good.

Application shows as a process but i get no window. when i try to kiil the
process, it just does not do it, but no errors.

When i try to shutdown, after awhile, i get a dialog saying that a process
won't end. it's name is binsary gibberis (squares int he window title, but
the icon is itunes.).

Any ideas?
