Since I installed itunes, my laptop has been extremely slow to start up and
songs have taken ages to import from a cd (I have windows XP). It was
initially ok, but after a couple of songs failed to fully import, its all
been very slow. Any ideas?

Re startup - a lot of slow startup issues can be resolved by going to
msconfig (start, run, and type msconfig <enter> - go to the startup tab, and
untick processes you don't want autostarting - such as QuickTime, iTunes
Helper whatsit, RealPlayer, etc etc etc. This doesn't uninstall anything -
just stops it from hogging resources when you start up your PC.

That said, I'd make sure you're running the latest version of iTunes, and if
you still have the problem after disabling startup stuff, check with Apple,
as this isn't likely to be a Windows issue per se.

Many of the Apple startup processes such as qttask, ipodservice,
ituneshelper will get reinstalled when you run Quicktime or iTunes again
, so if you don't want them running you may have to remove the
executables from your machine. Now that iTunes is bundled with
Quicktime, it seems that Quicktime will re-add all these services
whenever it runs (even if you don't use iTunes or have an iPod). Now
THAT's something to take to Apple!
