ITS HAPPENING AGAIN

JUST REINSTALLED WIN XP. (FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER.) STILL
SOMETIMES NOT ALL THE TIME I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE MICROSOFT EXP. HAS
ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

In all liklihood, you have bad hardware. I would first test the memory
using memtest86:

Consider your memory the most likly suspect until it tests otherwise with
memtest.

Bad hardware. Incorrect drivers. You've already contracted virus/malware.
Your keyboard is sending nothing but capital letters and confusing your
computer. It could be any of those and more.

Essentially - you did a fresh install of Windows XP. Great. Did you
download all the latest hardware drivers for each individual component (from
the manufacturer web page - not microsoft) and upgrade that as soon as the
install was done? Did you flash your hardware firmware/BIOSes? Did you at
least have your Internet Firewall enabled before connecting to the Internet?
Did you fully patch (SP2 and 60+ patches) Windows XP after the install?
Have you ran hardware checkers on your hard disk drive and memory? Have you
taken the computer to a professional or if it under warranty - called those
you purchased it from for troubleshooting and help?
 
Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for when the error occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Aren't the only ones that will show be unsigned?

OK, if it will not harm my system. I have five such unsigned drivers in
sigverif.exe - hpgdtppg.dll, hpgdt.dll, hpgdtuu.dll, hpsjuset.dll and
mdiui.dll . However just to be clear, by <disregard>, do you mean delete
them?

Because reinstalling the OS won't address the what is apparently an
underlying hard problem that causing the errors. It might help if you
were to post the specific problems you're experiencing, so someone could
offer useful advice. No one can help if you don't provide at least a
modicum of information.

It is you with the problem- capital letters is considered to be shouting.
All he did was ask you not to shout- don't be so easily offended- and offer
you some help along with that advice. There is no need to get offensive.

Using sigverif.exe is one way to try to identify a problematic driver.
The process can be used when an unidentified driver is suspected
of causing the operating system to crash generating a blue screen
of death Stop Error message. Signed drivers are less likely to cause
such errors so you concentrate efforts on finding updated
replacements for those which are unsigned. Unchecked files are not
checked because they are not installed and so can be ignored.

You have five unsigned drivers. Just because they are unsigned does
not mean that they are not to be used. It usually means that they predate
the File Signature system operated by Microsoft. However, if you are
encountering problems then they are a good place to start if you have
no better clues.

You should try to get out of thinking that "deleting" is a way of solving a
problem. It may be but more often it is not. With drivers you replace an
existing driver with an updated version, probably devised to overcome
the problem you are encountering. Occasionally you may need to revert
to an earlier version of the driver.

Unless you have a problem with your HP peripherals or are seeing
errors where drivers are a suspected cause leave things as they are.
Most users have some unsigned drivers. There are 10 on my machine.
