Windows XP 64-bit Edition Version 2003 only runs on Intel Itanium II
processor based systems
see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.asp

It is a 64-bit operating systems as thus requires a 64-bit processor.
The Intel Pentium family of CPUs are all 32-bit

For more information on Intel Itanium II processors see
http://www.intel.com/products/serve...2/index.htm?iid=ipp_srvr_proc+itanium2wrkstn&

Itanium II based workstations can be purchased from HP for prices starting
at $3300 see
http://www.hp.com/workstations/itanium/

If you have to ask,it is 32bit.

You would know if you had the 64bit version (which only runs on IA64 ie
Itanium and Itanium II processors) by the light feeling in your wallet.

If you download the wrong version you will get a "not a valid win32
application" message when you try to run the patch.

Windows XP is 32-bit unless it tells you otherwise.

Start > Run > type in "winver" > hit Enter

If you see " 64-bit " you have a 64-bit version. If you do not then you
have a 32-bit version. Almost all of the millions of installed copies of
Windows XP are 32-bit. A few thosand copies, usually bought by private
enterprise, are 64-bit. The 64-bit versions are used on Intel Itanium
powered workstations and servers.

The 64 bit is specifically for Itaniums - they need it, with their
different code set, and it will not work with a P4

Didn't you read the post you are replying to???? In order to run 64-bit
Windows, you have to have the Itanium II CPU. Did you just walk into a
computer store, point to a Pc and say " I want that one" without seeing
what you bought??? I doubt it. I'm sure you were aware you bought a
PENTUIM Pc and King Dave clearly stated that ">The Intel Pentium family
of CPUs are all 32-bit". Therefor...You have the 32-bit. Duh!!!
