My home version of XP will not recognize my DVD-RW, CDROM, nor Zip drive
after installing OfficeXP SP3. I can't uninstall it, as it doesn't
appear in my add/remove menu, (yes, I DID check "updates"). I'm not
getting anywhere on the knowledge site.

Help?

yeppers, and tried registry restore, and also going to HP to reinstall
updated drivers. I just finished uninstalling all software that uses the
recording drive. (Yet another knowledge base solution) but it hasn't
helped. I'm just shaking my head--ironically, my backups are all on
DVDrw, so even if I uninstall it all, I can't read the back ups! :)
giggling in madness here.

Error code 41 indicates that the driver is loaded but the system cannot find
the device. You only installed the Office Service Pack, so I am assuming you
haven't been working inside the system? Have you run the hardware wizard to
see if the devices are recognized?

Yes, I've viewed them, and they are listed in the device manager, (I've
uninstalled and reinstalled). The cmos startup recognizes them as well.
I tried doing a registry sweep, to see if there were some changes in the
keys or binaries, and found no issues there either. It's just puzzling me.

(thanks for the attentive responses, by the way)

Thanks Rick, I figured it out...I had to set system restore back to at
least a week ago, and then one by one check to see which update caused
the issue. I think the order they were installed made all the
difference. This time, I installed office updates prior to Security
updates, and that did the trick. Once I did a step by step install, I
was able to read all drives normally once more. (I never express it! :))
