I installed Windows XP Home Edition but can't find
anything about Microsoft Works, thought it came with it
and can't find anything about where it is.

Windows XP is an "Operating System" and does not include
Microsoft Works. You can purchase Microsoft Works at your
favorite store that sells computer software.

No version of Windows has ever come with anything other than notepad and
wordpad. Some vendors bundle applications like Works with their machines,
giving the impression that Windows comes with these packages. You will have
to buy it.

No, MS Works has always been a separate program on a
separate CD Rom. In earlier days, it was a set of six
floppies. You might be thinking about bundled software
that came with your computer, of which Microsoft has no
control over. It all depends on the system you bought.
MS Works is merely a scaled-down version of Office, a
substantially better program. MS Works can be purchased
separately from many ma-and-pa computer shops for about
$20, and may be available as a legitimate copy for sale on
ebay. Be sure you see a photograph of the actual disc if
you go this route; pirated copies receive absolutely no
support.
