I had the error that windows could not start b/c the
C:\windows\system32\config\system file is missing or
corrupted. I used the recovery console to fix it
although I did NOT get asked an administrator's password.

Now it is caught in a loop with the following error:
Isass.exe - System Error
Trying to update a password, this return status indicates
that the value provided as the current password is not
correct.

It's Lsass.exe not Isass.exe.

Seen it before. Don't know what caused it, lots of possible trojans that
can do this sort of damamge but I was never able to confirm. Same thing
happened to me - after several CHKDSK /R attempts it did the same thing
to me. Only solution in my case was to blow away the partition and do a
clean install.
