Is Windows 2000 generally slower with wireless?

A friends laptop has windows 2000 with a wireless card. It always seems to be
a significantly slower badwidth speed compared to my XP laptop using her
wireless connection. Sometimes slow enough that the page times out. Im
thinking that it may be the wireless card but before i do i wanted to make
sure that there isnt something in Windows 2000 that is somehow limiting it.

Not that I am aware of. It could be an issue with the wireless card,
and it may be resolved by downloading updated drivers. Even though they
claim it, some access points don't play well with all wireless cards, so
it might also be a compatability issue.

It's probably the wireless. With wireless, you have to be pretty close to
the access point to get the full advertised speed of the wireless card.
Could be a number of things, including a bad antenna, just the win2k one has
lower power output so that it can't transmit further than the other one.
Hence it could be on the fringe area, and it would indeed get a very slow
speed with a rather high packet loss. Try throttling it back to "1 or 2
mbps" rate. Usually it will help so that at least you get a stable
connection. Also the slower sync speed has greater range.
