I bought an ACER 560 including Vista Home Basic edition. Now Im wondering
why I have a 32 Bit Sistem and not a 64 Bit. What can I do that I have 64 Bit
and is this important for runnig some applications?

Sadly here in the Philippines where I live no one is able to give me answers
regarding Vista.

Only Vista Ultimate Edition retail package product contains both disk for 32
and 64 bit systems. If you want the 64-bit disk, you need to get it from the
OEM.

Order Alternate media:

Assuming your OEM even has them, let alone has any desire to provide
you with one....

This is something I'll have to think about when it's time to purchase
my next PC a few years down the road.

If I were to do it today, I'dl probably get the cheapest versoin of
Vista the OEM offers and then go out and buy the upgrade myself.

I strongly suspect that OEMs such as Dell won't sell you a 64-bit
version of Vista, period.

Thanks Scott for your Answer. Well, it isn't Acer Philippines which let me
alone with my questions. It is the retailer. The problem we have here in the
Philippines is that we have alot of good IT-Personel, but they don't work in
the retailstores. LOL
I would buy again an ACER because the PC and the Acer Mainoffice in Manila
is not the problem. It is the retailer here in the province.

Happy easter!!

Thanks Andre for your Answer. Your provided links helped me alot. Now at
least I find some helping inspirations :)

Dell has 64-bit versions available for educational and commercial
purchase...fully supported as well.

But is there much, if anything, in the way of applications?

Not necessarily to take advantage of the large memory address space, but
many existing full 32 bit applications run just fine on it. If you question
device driver support, thats another topic.

If you own a copy of Vista 32 bit and you PC has a 64 bit processor then you
can order an upgrade 64 bit DVD for a nominal price from this site.

From memory the costs was only $10, the 64 bit must be done as a clean
install not an upgrade to an existing system

I'm almost certain you are better off with the 32 bit version. There are
serious problems getting drivers for the 64 bit Vista. It is no faster, and
the only real advantage you'd notice is that it can use more than 4G of RAM.
But I doubt you'll be putting more than 4G in your Acer.

Stick to 32 bit is my advice.

For the average consumer 32-bit Windows remains a good choice. But what
about the majority of users who want to grow beyond that 4 GBs, for stuff
like video editing and rendering, who might eventually want to solve more
complex task? Wouldn't you want an OS that can grow with you.
