I use Windows XP Home but I was thinking of uprading to Vista Home Premium.
I've heard, though, that it has loads of problems including causing slow
Internet connections. I'd appreciate other opinions on this. Is it still
in
the guinea pig stage?
As to the question posed in your subject, yes I think Vista is good, and it
will be a great OS. It is the future as well. Does it have problems?
Sure, it's a new OS, original release, with it's share of bugs, and there
are issues with lack of driver support for legacy hardware. But it can run
well right now on the right hardware with good drives and the right
software.
That said what is the reason you want to upgrade? Don't upgrade just to do
it; have a reason. That might be simply the desire to experiment and be on
the edge. That's fine. Otherwise look at it logically, do you have a need?
If things are running well now why change? Maybe wait for when you get a
new computer.
For new hardware I would recommend going with Vista. Upgrading old
hardware, you need to do thorough research to find out if it will run well
on your system, including all the legacy hardware and software. Check the
computer manufacturer's web site for compatibility info, same with the web
sites for all the hardware and software, read the Vista newsgroups (keeping
in mind that most people post there because they have a problem. That
doesn't mean _everyone_ or even the majority are having those problems.)
Vista runs well on this almost 5 year old P4 2.53 GHz, 1GB RAM system, but I
did my homework. I didn't just run the upgrade advisor and hope for the
best.
Only you can assess your ability to do this research and make the right
decision based on that.
There are Vista specific newsgroups. Here is a list of those:
