Boot from the CD. Chose to remove existing partition(s) and then recreate
the partition(s).

I tried reinstalling Xp. Knew something was not right when no formattin
occured. Now when I start my computer a black screen comes up giving m
2 choices of windows xp to run. What do I do to get this sloved. I kno
I need to reformat but when I put the Win. xp CD in it wornt let m
format or make and secound partitions

You can't do this from within windows. Boot from the CD. Then delete
the current partition and create a new one. Then install XP

you better take that box to someone who knows what they are doing before you
do some real damage......a little knowledge is dangerous....no knowledge is
even more dangerous.....

If you want to keep your programs and such try
www.michaelstevenstech.com, "Repair/Install" procedure. I've used it
and the one by Charley White several times. It beats the heck out of
re-installing all the programs again.

If you can get windows started, Goto:
Start, Run, and type in msconfig.
Now click on the "Boot.ini" tab.(With the two choices that you have at
startup There should be two paths that look like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partion(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/noexecute=optin /fastdetect)
Now Click "Check all boot paths".
It should tell you that one of the paths are incorrect and ask if you want
to remove it.
