I've been having this problem off and on since a long time now - checked with all spyware checkers and there's definitely no spyware. Computer config is 2.4GHz, 752MB RAM, WinXP Pro. Sometimes its explorer.exe that takes 100%, sometimes its iexplore.exe. After I restart it works fine for a while. The only time explorer.exe consistenly always goes to 100% is when I try to browse the Start Menu in Windows Explorer. Adding/removing items from the startmenu is a pain as it takes ages to delete a file in there. Any suggestions? Thanks

you need to figure out what app/process is using up that cpu time.
sometimes it's perfectly normal (seti@home), others it's a bug or a trojan
running.

hit ctrl-shift-esc to bring up TaskManager, click the Processes tab,
double-click the %CPU column (to sort the list by cpu usage), and tell us
who's eating up those cpu resources. Once you've got the process name,
search your machine for a file w/ that name, hover your mouse over it (or
right-click properties) and read what info is displayed (name, company,
version, etc). That'll give ya lots of insight into what it is. Google
the filename, that'll give ya lots of insight too, especially if it's a
trojan. Hopefully what you find will guide you how to fix it.

did anyone find a solution with the explorer.exe 100% cpu lock up, as i too am stuck with the same problem?!

i dont know how to get rid of the constant problem but if you ctrl alt delete and then end explorer in the cpu part iy will
stop the prob str8 away all you then do is keep task manager up and then go to run and type explorer.ex
and you have your system back.
