Is there a web site for XP Networking?

I have an XP professional workstation on a peer-to-peer network. I have gone
through all the stuff and all the services, protocals, connections are set
up. I even changed the network card. I have items checked for the connection
using this card: Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Print sharing for
Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, NWLink NetBios, NWLink
IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transfer Protocal and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

I have the exact same settings on another XP Pro machine that is working
perfectly.

I set it to show the icon in notification when connected. It shows that it
is connected. Under network status, it shows that it is connected at 100.0
Mbps and show packets sent and received.

However, I cannot see any other computers in the workgroup, I cannot see the
computer from other computers in the workgroup. I cannot connect to the
internet. I cannot get an IP address from the DHCP server, (yes, I have that
option set in the TCP/IP propeties). I've spent way too many hours trying to
figure this out.

Is there a web site that tells me every setting necessary for networking to
work? I can't find anything that comprehensive on MS or MSDN. Something like
a check list.

The computer networking was working and then one day just stopped. That is
why I changed the card after hours of trouble shooting.

I'm kinda at the end of my rope with this machine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

How to setup home or peer-to-peer network

If all of the computers in a peer-to-peer workgroup don't have a common
networking protocol, a common workgroup, and common user names and
passwords, the computers may experience a difficulty to communicate with
other computers that are running Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 95, or
Microsoft Windows 98. To resolve this issue, configure the computers by
ensuring that they have a common networking protocol (TCP/IP), a common
workgroup, and common user names and passwords. Also make sure enable File
and Printer Sharing is installed.

Thanks Robert,

All of the requirements listed have been met.

For some reason, it just stopped working. I've changed cables, hubs, network
cards.

The first question I always ask is if you can ping. if not, compare ipconfig
/all or post it here. or you can go to http://www.ChicagoTech.net
do-it-yourself tools to do the troubleshooting.
