Is there a way to recover deleted items from Archive folders?

Is there a way to recover deleted items from Archive folders? The users archive folder was residing locally, and she accidentally deleted some items within her archive folders. The recover deleted items option is greyed out within the archive folders when I try to recover. Any help would be appreciated =)

Recover works when using Exchange (and if enabled, and only for however
long configured for expiration). Do you use Exchange? If not, rely on
backups.
 
Did she look in the Deleted Items folder inside the Archive folder hierarchy?
