In Outlook 2003 is there a way to permanently modify the standrad new Message
form in the Standard forms library.
In this case I would like to add a basic text field for Project Number so
when users click the New button for a New message, that field is displayed in
the standard new message form.
I can see how it is set up in a Personal forms library - However my users do
not like the extra steps of opening a custom form.
(Lazy as it is) The users want to click the New Message button and have the
custom "Project Number" field available...

Thanks in advance for the help...

Well.. in all honesty, browsing for forms is a PITA and I side with the
users. :)

Right click on a folder and choose properties... you can assign default
forms.

Or...
1) If you publish a form to a folder, it's listed on the actions menu when
you are using that folder.
2) You can create shortcuts to open a specific form (or template) - see Help
for the command line switches needs for forms.
3) Save templates then copy to an Outlook folder - open from the folder

I prefer #1 but it may not work in your situation though...

Hello Sue and Diane:

Thanks very much for the advice - It worked great....
I was able to use the FormsAdmin.exe to set this up..
Of course now that I have a custom Message form showing our project numbers
the users now want to see the Proj Number in the Preview Pane (give em' and
inch and they want a mile)...
Thanks again for the advice - Much appreciated
Happy Monday :-)

Regards,
Alex Wood

What about including the project number as part of the subject? You're not
going to get it to appear in the preview pane unless it's one of the fields
that the pane always shows.

Hi Sue:

I had mentioned that (Proj Number in message body) but the principals here
wanted something more obvious in the message to "prompt" our engineers to put
the Project Number in....
I thought the new custom field would do what they wanted...
Our issue is that the principals here as well as the engineers seem to be
somewhat overwhelmed with email - Partiularly Project related email that
doesn't make it to our hardcopy files - One idea was to set the Project
Number field and then additionally have a rule set that automatically sends
the email to a File Admin account for printing and filing...
How to seperate people's personal email from project email so the File Admin
wouldn't have to sort it out was one issue I had thought of in this case...
I'm trying to leverage Outlooks native features to help with email
management but I am thinking we may have to look at some add-on application
to help...
Any suggestions are welcome...

Thanks in advance for all of your help...

Best Regards,
Alex

You said you wanted the number to appear in the preview pane. That won't
happen if you put it in only a custom field.
