Checking the character set and can't find a symbol for Average or Mean?
Does it exist? I believe it looks like an X with a horizontal bar above it.
Thanks, Katie

A couple of options:

- Use a combination of characters: set word wrap on
(Format|Cells|Alignment and check the "Wrap text" box) and type
underscore (shift dash) Alt-Enter X

- Use a font that contains the character: the font "MS Reference 1"
has a lowercase x with an overbar mapped to the lowercase x key. It has
a few other characters with overbars (nu and most vowels), but not
y-bar. I doubt that any other standard fonts have similar characters,
but you might find something by querying a font newsgroup or searching
font sites. As a more extreme solution, you might get a font editor and
create your own font.

Another option is to use the Equation Editor to create the symbols --

Choose Insert>Object
On the 'Create New' tab, choose Microsoft Equation from the list.

If it's not in the list, you can open the Control Panel,
and use the Add/Remove Programs utility to install it from the CD.

Click the Underbar and Overbar Templates button
(bottom row, centre)
Click on the first option
Click in the box, and type an X
Click outside the Equation object when finished.
