Is the router bad?

Denny

I have a Lynksys BFW1154 Router connecting two computers to the Internet. I
keep getting dropped when I plug the computers into the router, but when I
take the router out of the equation the connection doesn't have a problem.
The router is less than a year old. This seems to be that the router is the
problem and I probably need to purchase a new one, but I am no networking
expert. Just seems logical that as soon as I put the router into the
equation the send signal on the router stops within just a couple of
seconds. Please let me know if I am on the right track here. Thanks in
advance!

Thanks Rafael. I checked the configuration and it was the same as before
the problem started. This router was working just yesterday.

Before you trash the router, check its configuration and talk to the linksys
tech support just to be sure.

Another interesting fact to go with this. If I go to a sight that has
streaming video while the router is connected the signal drops. Any one
know why this is happening? While the router is disconnected the streaming
video sights work fine.

Rafael,
I went online with Lynksys and talked to three different techs. None of
them could give me any reason why my connection kept dropping with the
router in the equation. I did everything they said but to no avail. I am
frustrated.

With all the info you posted, it is easy to assume the router is the
problem.

Have you try to reset the router to factory default values? just in case...
there is a small button on the back that if you keep it press for like 30
secs it will reset everything.

Thanks for the feedback Rafael. Yes, I did a hard reset of the router. I
was online with the Lynksys folks for about 6 hours and did everything they
asked, but nothing worked. This morning everything works fine as far as
browsing the Internet, getting mail, downloading files, uploading files (to
my school web), but when I try to watch streaming video in either format
Microsoft of Real Media the connection drops. If the router is not in the
equation I can watch the steaming video without any problem. It just seems
to point to the router, but I didn't get a definite answer from Lynksys. I
guess I will have to purchase a router and see what happens. Thanks again!

Well, after purchasing a new router the problem is solved. It seemed
obvious the router was the problem, but I went through all of the steps with
Lynksys and on my own and it came down to the obvious which Lynksys just
didn't want to admit to.
