IS SP2 now officially released?

  • Thread starter Thread starter johnf

It will be in Windows Updates August 10th.

I will wait for a while, and follow the newsgroups, before I download
it to see what, if any problems users are having.

No need to rush for me.

I notice you can now d'load SP2 from -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/
But it does not as yet appear on Windows Update.
Is the one on that link still Beta or not? Seems quite odd to me.

Have you yet bothered to check if all your software is compatible with
SP2? For example, Symantec is suggesting you wait until a LiveUpdate
offers an update and install it before you install SP2; see
http://snipurl.com/8av4. Other products also have compatibilities
issues with SP2. Do a software inventory and check all are SP2
compatible.

Sorry, *Vanguard*, but I fail to see the connection to my query - did I miss
something?

The relevant end-user schedules for 2004 are:

August 06 Release to manufacturing.
August 09 Release to Microsoft Download Center (network installation package).
August 09 Release to MSDN subscription site (CD ISO image).
August 16 Release to Automatic Updates.
August 16 Release to Software Update Services.
August xx Release to Windows Update.

Of course compatibility is never a concern ... not! Presumably you
asked about SP2 because you want to install SP2 but your software may
not support SP2. You asked about SP2 because you never intend to
install it? In that case, where can I pick up a $370,000 Pagani Zonda
C12S? ;-)

By the way, SP2 was released to manufacturers
(http://snipurl.com/SP2_mfr) and MSDN subscribers
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/) before it will be released to
the general public. If you enable Windows Update, you'll be told when
it is available. (Kaylene's post has some specific dates but no
evidentiary links.)
