is my XP installation stuck or just slow?

The installation of XP Professional started and is at the window with 5
status indicators on the left side of the screen and text describing the new
features on the right. The little light keeps moving across the bottom right
of the screen and the features text keeps changing as if the program is doing
something.

When this screen first appeared at about 5:15 EST, it said (under the status
indicators on the left) -- "setup will complete in approximately : 39
minutes". Well, that was 220 minutes ago.

Is it really stuck or is the 39 minutes a really bad estimate?

If it is stuck, what do I do now?

I'm having a similar problem right now on my PC. I get
to that blue screen, I see the scrolling text and the
green progress indicators at the lower right, but I have
something more... I get a pop-up which states that Files
are needed. The complete error message:

"Files Needed
The file 'asms' on Windows XP Home Edition Servive Pack 1
CD is needed.
Type the path where the file is located, and then click
OK.
Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386"

I would happily change the path to where it needs to be,
but for some reason my keyboard will not function on this
screen--neither will my mouse. I've already researched
the error on
http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBJ/tip4600/rh4639.htm ,but since
my keyboard isn't working on this screen I am unable to
hit Shift+F10. Can anyone help me.... PLEASE!!!!

I am having the same problem. With 39 minutes to go it has been stuck now
for more than a day. I have hit the shift +F10 and gone into Regedit and
loaded the Hive but that's as far as I get. It won't let me go to the next
step and then test and delete the keys it is saying to delete.
It is hopelessly stuck. Every time I reboot it goes back to resuming the
Install and to that stuck screen. I have rebooted in everyway I can think
of. I have connected a external cd drive and it does not work either. What
can I do to get out of this?
I have a Gateway Solo 1400 Laptop. Thanks
