Is my cd-rom drive too slow for Windows Media Player 9

I have a 21x cd rom drive and when I play cds, there are
pauses in the music and skipping. When I had a fast
burner in my computer, I never had this problem. Will
buying a faster cd-rom drive solve the problem? How much
faster? Are their any settings in device manager I have
to make for this 21x cd-rom drive?

Audio CDs play at 1x, so that shouldn't be a problem.
