Hi,
My pc has been shutting down and restarting on its own lately I disabled
autorestart and unistalled recently installed software and had no luck in
finding the cause.
I have a p4 1.8 ghz with 256 Mb of ram running windows xp pro and norton
internet security and antivirus 2004.
I finally received this error message from windows .
A problem has been detected and winows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_equal
if this is the first time...(it isn't).........

the technical info:

*** STOP :0x000000D1(0xF9E4E000,00000002,00000001)0XF9F6AE66
*** SYMNDS.sys Adress 0xF9F6AE66 base at F9F6A000 dATE STAMP 4050ED2F

I've read that this could be due to a faulty ram or other hardware or
software but I don't know how to determine the cause.

Please help

Do you remember if you installed a printer or a scanner or a digital camera
before this started. Because if you did it sounds like a driver problem. You
may need to go online to the manufacturer for a new driver and uninstall the
old one. Bob.

I had a similar problem. Others suggested that it sounded like a video card
problem or a driver. It turned out that the fan on my video card driver had
stopped and had burned out the card, causing all sorts of problems with
crashing and restart problems, including the error message you received.
Hope this helps.

Well I opened up the case and gave it a good cleaning and had no problem
since
I hope it stays that way :)
